Nursing homes are facilities providing short-term care after a hospitalization or for more extended long-term care. Many patients need assistance with their activities of daily living (ADLs) and therefore need around the clock nursing care. Most nursing homes provide physical therapy, speech therapy and occupational therapy. Some patients will get stronger or recover from their illness and be able to return to a more independent lifestyle and some may need further assistance when returning home.
